Opportunity Thurrock a great success for Thurrock students

On Wednesday 20 November, over 2,500 students from schools and colleges across Thurrock attended Opportunity Thurrock, the boroughs largest careers and further education exhibitions.
Students from years 8 to 13, who attended the event at the London Cruise Terminal, Tilbury, had the opportunity to meet over 100 exhibitors and learn about the different career opportunities available across the borough and in the immediate surrounding areas. A13 road closure this weekend, 22 to 25 November

A section of the A13 will be closed this weekend to enable major bridge construction works to continue as part of the A13 road widening project.
The A13 will be closed in both directions beneath the Orsett Cock roundabout, from 9pm on Friday 22 November until 5am on Monday 25 November.
Traffic will be diverted via the exit slip roads, Orsett Cock roundabout and back onto the A13 via the entry slip roads at the A128 junction.
Delays are expected and all non-local traffic is urged to avoid the A13 and use alternative routes such as the A130, A127 and M25.

Take the stress out of Christmas with the Christmas Club

Spread out the cost of a new bike this festive season with help from the Tilbury ForwardMotion Cycle Hub's Christmas Club.
Thurrock residents and those living outside the borough can all benefit from the offer on any bike at the Tilbury Cycle Hub, which is based at 43 Calcutta Road and run by ForwardMotion – a collaborative initiative between Thurrock, Essex and Southend-on-Sea councils.

Trading Standards issues Christmas gift warning

Thurrock Council's Trading Standards is reminding Christmas shoppers to buy from reputable retailers after they intercepted more than half a million unsafe and non-compliant products in the past 6 months.
Between April and September 2019, the Trading Standards import surveillance team saved the UK economy an estimated £19.7million by identifying, assessing and removing packages containing unsafe and non-compliant toys, cosmetics and electrical items at DP World London Gateway in Stanford-le-Hope, the Port of Tilbury and other storage sites in Thurrock.

Get in the Christmas spirit with Thameside Theatre

You can get into the Christmas spirit early with a trio of classic festive family films being screened at Thameside Theatre on Saturday 23 November.
As well as being family friendly with something for all ages to enjoy, the screenings are also excellent value costing just £1 for each ticket for both children and adults.

Notice of election published

Thurrock Council has officially published notice of the upcoming general election which will take place on 12 December 2019.
Nominations for candidates are open from 10am on Tuesday 12 November. Anyone who wants to stand in the election can collect nomination papers at Thurrock Council's Civic Offices in New Road, Grays between 10am and 4pm from Tuesday 12 November to Thursday 14 November. Completed papers should be returned to the Civic Offices no later than 4pm on Thursday 14 November.

Health and social care system celebrated with visitors from Singapore

Five colleagues who provide health services in north Singapore visited Thurrock yesterday (Thursday 7 November) to hear about local area coordination and the transformation of our health and social care system.
Health, social care and voluntary sector partners in Thurrock are working on new ways of meeting the needs of Thurrock residents through the services and support provided. Local area coordination has influenced the transformation of the health and social care system in Thurrock, which is referred to as Better Care Together.

Works commence on Grays two-way system

8 November 2019
A 2-way system is set to be reintroduced on Orsett Road to help improve the transport network in Grays.
Engineering works have started between the junction of Derby Road and Stanley Road as part of a wider transport strategy for the town centre to help make Grays safer and more accessible, promoting job creation and access to skills and learning.
