Unlicensed Properties and Reporting

In 16 out of 20 wards in Thurrock, landlords are required to have a Selective Property Licence before renting out a property. The wards are listed in the table at the bottom of this page.

The Council actively checks for properties that do not have the correct licence and will take legal action if needed.

Landlords who rent out a property without the proper licence could face:
•    a financial penalty notice of up to £30,000.
•    Prosecuted in Court.
•    An order to repay up to 12 months’ rent to the Council or to their tenants
