We would like to thank all Thurrock residents who took part in our recent ‘resident engagement survey on the subject of Local Government Reorganisation', which closed on Wednesday, 27 August.
The survey invited residents to share their views on the government’s proposals for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), which aims to simplify council boundaries and structures, strengthen decision-making at the local level, and make sure services are delivered in a way that best meets community needs and is to a good standard, providing value for money.
Across Greater Essex, proposals set out replacing the current 15 mix of different sort of councils and create new but fewer, larger authorities. Options under consideration include the creation of three, four, or five new unitary authorities that will provide all local services, instead of the current set-up which includes a mix of county council, unitary authorities and district councils.
The feedback we have received from Thurrock residents to our survey will provide valuable insights on what matters most – from transport links and housing to health priorities and financial stability.
Your views are important. They will directly shape Thurrock Council’s response to the consultation and will be fed into our final proposals to Government in September.
We are grateful to everyone who took the time to complete the survey or share their thoughts with us in other ways. Your feedback helps make sure that Thurrock’s voice is heard clearly as decisions are made about the future of local government across Essex.
To help you stay informed about LGR in Greater Essex, you can visit the brand-new Essex LGR Hub website. The Hub includes a set of ‘frequently asked questions', an explainer video, and updates on the proposals being submitted to government by the existing Essex councils.
If you haven’t done so already, you can sign-up for Thurrock News – our weekly email newsletter for future updates as we move through the next stages of this important process.
