Planning permission has been granted for the regeneration of the riverside path and cycle way linking Grays Town Wharf with Tilbury Docks.
Works will include a new walkway, improved flood defences and landscaping to help open up the riverfront in Grays, which is the first phase of works that will create a new destination to bring more people to Grays, make the riverfront a safer and more pleasant place to spend time, reduce anti-social behaviour and improve Grays flood defences.
They are the first phase of works that will transform Grays Riverfront creating a new destination for residents and which will join up Grays Beach Riverside Park and Kilverts Fields and improve park facilities.
Cllr Lee Watson, Cabinet Member for Good Growth, said: “The plans will help us take advantage of the miles of beautiful riverfront that we have in Grays, creating a fantastic new walkway and cycle path between Grays and Tilbury Docks, with stunning riverside views.
“They are also the first phase of works that will transform Grays Riverfront area by joining up parks and creating new leisure and cultural facilities that take full advantage of Grays location next to the Thames.
“We have carried out extensive consultation on these plans and taken onboard feedback in making this application. We received overwhelming support, with nearly 84% of respondents supporting the scheme.
“These are exciting plans and with planning permission being granted they have taken a huge step forward.”
Construction on the new pathway is expected to get underway in early 2027.
