Mayor celebrates Get Online Week

23 October 2025

Cllr Sue Shinnick, Mayor of Thurrock, visited Grays Library this week to help celebrate Get Online Week, a national digital inclusion campaign, led by the Good Things Foundation.

The library’s digital team hosted special sessions helping residents explore both the benefits and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Mayor attended a session, spoke to the attendees and even picked up a few digital tips.

Samiat, a local resident with a distinction in Master of Science (MSc): Artificial Intelligence and Adaptive Systems, provided some expertise, with the support of the library’s digital volunteers.

Attendees had hands-on demonstrations using tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and Bing Image Creator, showcasing how AI can assist with everyday tasks, learning, and creativity.

As part of the library’s commitment to digital inclusion, we have gifted more than 600 free SIM cards with 12 months of free data to eligible residents, helping to ease the cost-of-living crisis and support access to online opportunities, social inclusion, and job searches.

More than 10 residents have gained employment in the last few months through the library's job club support.
