Protect young children this winter: Free flu vaccinations available for 2 and 3 year olds

28 October 2025

Parents and carers of young children in Thurrock are being encouraged to make sure their child receives their free flu vaccination this winter. Flu can be a very unpleasant illness for children and may lead to serious complications, particularly for those under the age of five.

Free flu vaccinations are now available for 2 and 3 year olds through local GP practices and participating community pharmacies. This year, there is a renewed focus on making the vaccine as accessible as possible, with more vaccination sites available across the borough.

The flu vaccine for young children is quick, safe, and is usually given as a nasal spray, making it easy and painless. Vaccinating young children also helps protect older family members and the wider community by reducing the spread of infection.

Why vaccination matters

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Flu can cause high fever, fatigue, extreme discomfort and, in some cases, lead to hospitalisation. By ensuring your child receives their free vaccine, you are helping protect them and others who may be at greater risk.

If you receive an invitation from your GP or the NHS, please take up the offer.
