Road infrastructure

Publication date:
Friday 17 April 2020
Request:

I wish to know the total investment at current prices, including the cost of land in your local road system. Please do not include private roads or the trunk road system for which I already have figures.

Clarification: "Investment" is clearly capital investment not maintenance. I wish to know, to put it more bluntly, if the total road system were lost, how much would have to be spent in replacing it including the cost of land.

Response:

Between £690,760,265.30 and £696,634,098.28 based on scenario (explained in attached spreadsheet). Asset GRC (gross replacement cost) has been calculated using average widths as per standard WGA (Whole Government Accounts) methodology. Land values have been assumed based on CPO (compulsory purchase order) principals and assume no extra for economic disruption or property loss (as in theory land would already be used for carriageways).
