Civic Offices costs

Publication date:
Thursday 7 November 2019

1. What is the council’s estimated cost for the demolition and redevelopment of CO2 AKA the Civic Offices on New Road Grays?

2. What is the estimated cost for the demolition and redevelopment of CO1, which plans say will be converted into housing?

3. What is the cost for demolishing the buildings on the corner of New Road and the High Street to make way for the new council building?

1. No part of CO2 is due to be demolished under the scheme. The redevelopment of CO2 will consist of the converting the existing ground floor area into useable office space and essential making good works around the link block from CO2 to the new extension. The cost of CO2 works is covered within the overall £9.78m budget.

2. Works on the CO1 site cannot start until the new extension is completed in approximately 2-years’ time. It is therefore too early to obtain detailed estimates from contractors as any estimate given now would be out of date by the time work begins.

3. The demolition works at the corner of New Road and High Street are an integral part of the overall scheme and are included within the £9.78m budget.
